Emodin   Anthraquinones represent a large family of compounds having diverse biological properties. Emodin (1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone) is a naturally occurring anthraquinone present in the roots and barks of numerous plants, molds, and lichens, and an active ingredient of various Chinese herbs

Purposes : the goods can be used as a laxative, emodin despite theremoval of activity, but because the body susceptible to oxidation and,in fact, the removal of very minor role, if combined with the sugar into glycosides may play a role in the removal. Emodin-1-O-beta-D-glucosaminidase and emodin-8-O-beta-D-glucoside is the combination of glucose and emodin glucoside, is combining the two different positions,which exists in rhubarb.

Pharmacology

Emodin is being studied as a potential agent that could reduce the impact of type 2 diabetes. It is a potent selective inhibitor of the enzyme 11β-HSD1. In studies in obese mice, emodin limits the effect of glucocorticoids and may therefore ameliorate diabetes and insulin resistance.

Pharmacological studies have demonstrated that emodin when isolated from rhubarb exhibits anti-cancer effects on several human cancers including human pancreatic cancer. Emodin in rhubarb extracts may also have neuroprotective properties against glutamate toxicity, but in other studies it seems to increase inflammation and have other possible neurotoxic effects.

Aloe-emodin (1,3,8-trihydroxyanthraquinone) is a variety of emodin found in Socotrine, Barbados, and Zanzibar aloes, but not in Natal aloes Main

Functions:
1. Anti-tumor: The Emodin has effective restrain to cell proliferation of hepatoma, lung tumor, bladder tumor and so on;
2. Protecting the Liver: Emodin protect the liver damage caused by carbon tetrachloride, and has a effective restrain to the Hepatitis B;
3. Anti-renal fibrosis: Emodin can restrain the division and proliferation of the HRIF. It can also result in the cell death by improving the level of C-MYC protein;
4. Antibiotic Action: Emodin has the inhibitory action of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
