A total of 990 MW of France-Spain May baseload was sold at auction at a price of Eur11.02/MWh while the corresponding Spain-France auction resulted in no capacity offered nor awarded, according to data published by European auction site Joint Allocation Office (JAO) Tuesday.
The outcome of the auction was a large increase in the spread from a price of Eur4.74/MWh for April and Eur3.08/MWh for March.
The Spain-France outcome for April had been Eur1.41/MWh. The company did not say why the May auction had not taken place.
French baseload for May delivery was assessed Tuesday at Eur23.80/MWh, while Spanish baseload for the month was assessed at Eur33.30/MWh.
A total of 18 shippers won France-Spain capacity in the May auction from requests totaling 6.5 GW, according to JAO.
Cross-border capacity between the two countries will be reduced to zero for a total of 12 days in the month from May 2 to May 13 inclusive, according to the group.
Maximum cross-border capacity between France and Spain is a theoretical 2.95 GW following the startup of the Santa Llogaia-Baixas interconnection last year, with 700 MW of full-year capacity getting auctioned at the end of 2015.
