EU third party wheat export licenses issued in the week to Tuesday fell 37.6% on the week to 715,234 mt, European Commission data showed Friday.
The figure was up 5.1% from the same week last year, although total wheat exports for the 2015-16 marketing year -- which runs from July to June -- remain 9.7% against 2014-15 at 24.484 million mt.
Despite a slow marketing campaign as it has struggled against more competitive origins around the world, France had its fifth-strongest week of the year as it shipped out 297,800 mt.
The Netherlands was the second biggest exporter of the week, selling some 96,668 mt. Other significant sellers included Lithuania with 82,350 mt, Italy with 64,200 mt, Germany with 50,391 mt, and Romania with 42,500 mt.
