Brazil shipped 52,430 mt of carbon long steel products in February, more than the double the 22,186 mt shipped in the year-ago period, according to trade ministry data released Wednesday.
The overall sales value followed the trend, rising 73.9% in a year-over-year comparison to $26.14 million FOB from $15.03 million FOB.
Rebar contributed 34,817 mt to the longs shipments in February, more than triple February 2015's 11,345 mt.
The value of the rebar sales more than doubled to $18.12 million FOB from $8.17 million FOB in the year-ago month, amid average prices falling to $520/mt from $720.59/mt.
Wire rod shipments increased 62.4% in February to 17,613 mt from 10,840 mt in the year-ago period, while the value of the exports grew 16.9% to $8.01 million FOB from $6.85 million FOB even as the average price declined to $455.29/mt from $632.55/mt.
