Brazilian sugar shipments in containers totaled 567,054 mt in the fourth quarter of 2015, up 20% from the same period of 2014 but down 12% from Q3, data from shipping agency Williams Brazil showed Wednesday.
The main port of origin was Santos, with 517,752 mt exported during Q4, up 32% from same period in 2014. The port of Suape exported 24,916 mt, down 24% year on year, while Paranagua port accounted for 19,803 mt, down 45% year on year. The balance was exported through other Brazilian ports.
Brazilian shipments in containers totaled 2.17 million mt in 2015, up 6% from 2014. Exports to Africa represented roughly 55% of total exports, or 1.2 million mt, up 11% year on year. Exports to Yemen totaled 164,682 mt, a drop of 60% from 2014, data showed.
In 2015, sugar exports through all modes of transport (road, containers and vessels) totaled 24.01 million mt, down 0.5% from 2014, data from the Agriculture Ministry showed. The average price was $318.23/mt FOB, down from $392.06/mt FOB in 2014. The highest average price was $589/mt FOB in 2011.
In January, Brazilian sugar exports totaled 1.5 million mt, with an average price of $289.35/mt FOB.
