Japan's Toray Industries will increase production at its optical-use polyethylene terephthalate film plant in China by 15,000 mt/year to 21,600 mt/year by September 2012, the company said Friday.
The plant, located in Yizheng, Jiangsu province, will start-up with an initial production capacity of 6,600 mt/year in July this year.
Toray decided to boost the production capacity of optical-use PET film, as it expects Chinese demand for this product to grow by 30% a year in the next few years. Optical-use PET film is used in flat panel displays.
Toray plans to invest about Yen 5.5 billion ($66 million) in the expansion project. The plant will be operated by Yihua Toray Polyester Film Co., a subsidiary of Toray Industries.
