Prompt power prices dropped once again Friday as Monday temperatures were forecast to rise to 8 degrees Celsius above the norm for this period, amid improved nuclear plant availability and high wind in-feed, sources said.
Baseload power for delivery Monday was last heard trading before the Platts 11 am London close at Eur23/MWh, Eur5.50 lower than Thursday's assessment of Friday baseload, while peakload power for Monday was last heard Eur4.75 lower at Eur28/MWh.
Saturday baseload was last heard at Eur22.50/MWh.
Epex Spot settled the auction for day-ahead baseload at Eur19.10/MWh.
Nuclear supply Friday rose 1 GW on the day to 58.2 GW after EDF brought back online its 1.3 GW Flamanville-2 nuclear reactor, RTE said.
Hydro capacity in the morning peak hours Friday fell by more than 3 GW on the day to 8 GW, RTE data showed.
On the renewables side, wind in-feed rose by 4 GW on the day to 4.5 GW, during peak hour 12:00, RTE data showed.
On Monday, wind out-turn was forecast to reach 5.6 GW at peak times, according to spotrenewables.com.
Gas output was down by nearly 2 GW on the day at 5.3 GW in hour 12:00 local time, while coal generation dropped 600 MW to 1 GW, RTE's real-time generation data showed.
Demand in peak hour 12:00 local time Friday was up by 1 GW at 71.4 GW.
With temperatures hitting 8 C above the norm Monday, according to weather provider WSI, domestic demand for electricity Monday is set to fall and reach a maximum of 69 GW at peak times, RTE said.
After Monday, temperatures were due to fall and were seen hovering 2-3 C above the norm, WSI data showed.
Week-ahead baseload erased the 75 euro cent gained in the trading session Thursday and was last heard Friday at Eur26.50/MWh.
