Mexico's Ministry of Economy has extended the existing countervailing duties applied to imports of hot-rolled coil from Russia and Ukraine, regardless of the country of origin, it said Thursday in the country's official gazette.
The duties of 21% and 25% imposed on imports from Russia and Ukraine, respectively, were extended for five more years, valid from March 29, 2015.
The products subject to the duty are non-alloyed HRC from Russia and Ukraine and HRC alloyed with boron from Russia, with width less than 600 mm and thickness less than 4.75 mm, regardless of length, under HS codes 7208.10.99, 7208.26.01, 7208.27.01, 7208.38.01, 7208.39.01, 7225.30.04, 7225.30.05, 7225.40.03 and 7225.40.04.
The duties were first applied in March 2000, when the ministry set 30.31% and 46.66% duties on HRC from Russia and Ukraine, respectively. In March 2006, the ministry extended the duties for five more years. In September 2011, it lowered the duties to 21% for Russia and 25% for Ukraine but again extended the duties for five more years.
Mexican steelmakers Altos Hornos de Mexico, or Ahmsa, and Ternium were the petitioners.
