US service centers shipped 112,100 st of aluminum products in December, down 3.5% compared with the same month in 2014, data released by the Metals Service Center Institute show.
Shipments in 2015 totaled 1.5734 million st, down 1.1% compared with 2014, MSCI said Monday.
Inventories of aluminum products at the end of December stood at 393,300 st, down 3.3% compared with the end of December 2014. This represents three-and-a-half months of aluminum inventory at the current shipping rate, flat compared with a year earlier, MSCI said.
Illinois-based MSCI also said Canadian service centers shipped 8,700 st of aluminum products in December, down 16.7% from the same month in 2014.
Canadian shipments in 2015 totaled 156,400 st, a decrease of 2.8% compared with 2014 shipments.
Canadian service center inventories of aluminum products were 34,300 st at the end of December, down 16% year on year. At the current shipping rate, Canada's aluminum distributors were carrying 3.9 months of supply in inventory, flat to a year earlier.
