USGC 3% sulfur fuel oil had its most active day in the Platts Market on Close assessment process in nearly six months Thursday, Platts data showed.
Nine trades took place for a total of 405,000 barrels during the MOC process, the most since there were 11 trades July 1.
Glencore and Trafigura were the largest buyers, each taking in 180,000 barrels. ATMI also bought 45,000 barrels.
Glencore was also the largest seller with a total of 135,000 barrels. Valero, Vitol and Trafigura also sold.
The nine trades were well above recent MOC process activity levels. In the eight trading days prior to Thursday, there had been a total of 24 trades for USGC 3%S fuel oil, or an average of three trades per day.
Potential export opportunities out of the USGC helped push up fuel oil demand Thursday, one source said.
