Brazilian imports of carbon steel sheet products sank 29.6% year on year to 800,205 mt in 2015, data from the foreign trade ministry showed Friday.
In 2014, the country imported about 1.14 million mt of flat sheet goods.
Imports of hot-rolled coil during 2015 totaled 28,095 mt, 13.7% above the 183,001 mt registered a year before. Cold-rolled imports fell 35% to 315,964 mt from 486,650 mt in 2014. Imports of hot-dip galvanized products shrank 40.8% to 276,146 mt from 466,937 mt in 2014.
Total imports were valued at $473.62 million FOB. HRC represented $107.61 million FOB, CRC $180.36 million FOB and HDG $185.65 million FOB.
In December, Brazil imported 20,564 mt of flat steel products. HRC totaled 4,373 mt, CRC 6,523 mt and HDG 9,668 mt.
In the month, total imports were valued at $10.96 million FOB -- $1.93 million FOB were from HRC imports, $3.09 million FOB were from CRC imports and $5.94 million FOB were from HDG imports.
