Duke Energy took its 934-MW Oconee-1 nuclear reactor in Seneca, South Carolina offline Friday morning for planned maintenance on equipment in the plant's electrical switchyard, plant spokeswoman Mikayla Kreuzberger said.
The unit had been operating at 100% of capacity Thursday, but was running at 19% of capacity early Friday, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in its daily reactor status reports.
Kreuzberger said information on when the unit would return to service is proprietary.
The adjacent Oconee-2 and -3 units, which also have a capacity of 934 MW, were unaffected and operating at full output Friday.
