South Africa's thermal coal exports rose 14.4% on the year to 6.908 million mt in November, according to customs data released Monday.
November's volume was 2% down from October's three-month high of 7.043 million mt.
Exports in the first eleven months of 2015 were 68.439 million mt, up 2.1% from a year earlier.
Shipments to India, the largest destination for South African thermal coal, rose 30% on the year to 3.332 million mt, but fell 2% from October.
South African thermal coal exports to Turkey gained 5% year-on-year to an eight-month high of 377,801 mt, and were also up 2% from October.
Exports to Israel rose to a nine-month high of 338,440 mt, more than doubling from the same month in 2014 and from October.
Shipments to Pakistan rose 90% on the year and 64% on the month to 325,890 mt, a three-month high.
Exports to Europe, however, more than halved on the year to 745,830 mt in November, up marginally on the month. The Netherlands took 312,150 mt of thermal coal in November, a 65% rise on the year and up 73% on the month.
The Platts FOB Richards Bay 6,000 kcal/kg NAR 7-45 day price monthly average for November was $53.33/mt, up $3.46/mt from October on a continuation of higher bids placed by large market players and some spot supply tightness.
