Real-time power prices across the New York region soared Tuesday morning, with a blast of winter weather hitting the Empire State causing demand to outpace expected levels.
New York ISO real-time prices ranged from about $2,099/MWh for West Zone A to $2,565/MWh for Long Island Zone K around 9:50 am EST. Zone A prices had been around $135/MWh before the jump and had been as high as $3,444/MWh earlier in the morning.
NYISO demand this morning was near 21.42 GW, which was nearly 1.15 GW higher than expected.
High temperatures across New York were expected to be in mid-20s to low 30s Fahrenheit Tuesday with lows in the single digits to mid-teens.
