Japan's Polyplastics will expand its production capacity of polyoxymethylene in Malaysia to 123,000 mt/year, from 33,000 mt/year currently, the company said Tuesday.
The company's wholly-owned polyoxymethylene plant is located in Kuantan. The company is hoping to complete the expansion in October 2013, with commercial production from the expanded facility slated for 2014.
Methanol is used as feedstock for formaldehyde which is used to produce polyoxymethylene, also known as polyacetal. Polyoxymethylene is used in the automotive and construction industries, among others.
Meanwhile, Polyplastics Taiwan plans to expand the capacity of its 21,000 mt/year polybutylene terephthalate plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to 35,000 mt/year by Janaury 2012.
