Norilsk Nickel's NORILSK copper brand was added to the list of approved brands for the London Metal Exchange's Grade A copper contract this week, the Russian producer said Friday.
Wednesday's registration of the brand, produced at Norilsk Nickel's Polar Division, "is a milestone for the company, because it makes deliveries of Norilsk Nickel copper cathodes to the LME possible, puts NN products on the same shelf as that occupied by major copper peers and provides with new prospects for global sales of copper cathodes," Markus Meurer, head of global sales at Norilsk Nickel, said in a statement.
Several of the company's nickel brands are already registered at the LME.
In October 1999, the exchange approved listing of four nickel brands -- NORILSK COMBINE H-1, NORILSK COMBINE H-1Y, SEVERONICKEL COMBINE H-1 and SEVERONICKEL COMBINE H-1Y -- which have been deliverable on the LME since January 2000.
In July 2015, Norilsk Nickel registered three nickel brands -- SEVERONICKEL COMBINE H-1, SEVERONICKEL COMBINE H-1Y and NORILSK COMBINE H-1 -- to be listed by the Shanghai Futures Exchange, making it the first global nickel major with brands listed on the SHFE alongside domestic producers.
Norilsk Nickel produced 193,754 mt of nickel and 274,053 mt of copper in the first nine months of 2015.
