Mexico's Pemex has restarted the steam cracker and two high-density polyethylene lines at its Morelos complex that were down for annual maintenance, a source with knowledge of business operations said Friday.
"All of the plants and cracker are operating," the source said.
The cracker maintenance was scheduled to begin on October 12, with the HDPE work occurring alongside that outage, although it was not clear exactly when each of the HDPE lines was taken offline.
Company sources have declined to discuss the type of repairs that were needed, and a company spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.
Pemex has two crackers, one at Morelos and one at Cangrejera, each with estimated ethylene production of 500,000 mt/year, according to Platts data. The complex produces HDPE injection and blowmolding grades.
HDPE production at the complex is estimated at 100,000 mt/year for each of the two lines, and the site also has a 300,000 mt/year LLDPE/HDPE swing unit.
