Pfizer says it is not yet clear whether its merger with Allergan will lead to job cuts, reported Independent.ie.
"Globally, we have indicated that synergies will be required, but it is too early in the process to know the potential impact of these," said a spokesperson for Pfizer in Ireland, where the companies employ 5000 workers between them.
However, spokesperson Karen O'Keeffe noted that the medicines made in Ireland by Pfizer, including Lipitor and Viagra, are growth areas for the company, adding that "the transaction allows us to make more medicines and therapies available."
However, O'Keeffe indicated that while "it is too early to speculate on any increased activities or investments, Ireland has benefited from some of the most significant investments that Pfizer has made recently."
