Brazilian imports of carbon sheet steel products in October totaled 44,999 mt, a drop of 38.28% compared with the 72,905 mt imported in the same month a year ago, according to data released by the foreign trade ministry Monday.
Imports of hot-rolled coil in October totaled 10,366 mt, up 116.5% year on year from 4,788 mt in October 2014. Cold-rolled coil imports dropped 5.66% to 11,719 mt from 12,422 mt imported in October 2014. Hot-dip galvanized imports fell 58.86% to 22,914 mt from 55,695 mt in the year-ago period.
The value of the imports of HRC in October was $5.01 million FOB, while for CRC the total value was $6.53 million FOB and for HDG it was $12.98 million FOB.
In the first 10 months of 2015, Brazil imported 740,487 mt of carbon sheet steel, 26.16% less than the 1 million mt of flat steel products the country saw arriving at its borders in the same 10 months in 2014.
Imports in these 10 months were valued at $443.21 million FOB. In the first 10 months of 2014, imports were valued at $698.88 million FOB.
