Platts assessed spot premiums for primary aluminum imports into Japan at $87-$90/mt plus London Metal Exchange cash, CIF Japan, Monday, unchanged since October 1 due to a lack of repeatability in indications reported.
There was no deal, offer or bid reported due to lack of spot import interests, sources said. Buyers said they had enough supplies on contracts. "No one needs to buy," said a producer.
This week, no ships are expected to arrive in Japan to offload term cargoes, but as shipping of term cargoes from Australia, South Africa and other origins is mostly on schedule, there is no need to reach out for spot cargoes, sources said.
One Japanese consumer and one Japanese trader put their buy indications at less than $87/mt plus LME cash CIF Japan due to lower spot demand.
"There is talk of traders offering $85/mt plus LME cash Southeast Asia, so I would bid $85/mt," said one consumer.
Meanwhile, the producer said there are buyers at $95/mt plus LME cash CIF, and $97/mt plus LME cash CIF in Southeast Asia.
