The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published the fourth edition of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of chemicals classification and labelling - also known as the "Purple Book". The fourth revised edition contains ious new or revised provisions concerning new hazard categories for chemically unstable gases and non-flammable aerosols; further rationalisation of precautionary statements, and further clarification of some of the criteria to avoid differences in their interpretation.The document is available in English, French and Spanish. Arabic, Russian and Chinese versions are expected to be published later this year.
