The front-month Powder River Basin 8,800 Btu/lb contract inched up Thursday in the US over-the-counter thermal coal market following its highest trade this year for November delivery.
Brokers on Thursday reported a trade for the PRB 8,800 (November) front-month contract at $11.05/st for one train (15,000 st).
The November contract had traded at $11/st three straight times in the previous four trading days before Thursday's deal.
The last time the PRB 8,800 front-month contract traded higher was September 23 at $11.25/st for October delivery.
Platts on Thursday assessed the front-month PRB 8,800 futures contract at $11.05/st, up 5 cents from Wednesday, based on the physical trade.
No deals were reported Thursday for the Central Appalachian (CSX) rail front-month contract, though brokers reported bids of $35/st and $35.50/st without any offers.
The contract last traded Tuesday at $35.50/st.
Platts on Thursday assessed the front-month CSX futures contract at $35.55/st, up 15 cents from Wednesday, based on a reported bid of $35.50/st.
In the CSX financial market Thursday, a pair of Q1 2016 over Q2 2016 spread trades cleared at minus $1.25 on legs of $40.25/st and $41.50/st.
The same paper contract traded four times Wednesday, clearing last at minus $1.30.
There were no trades reported Thursday for the CAPP barge front-month contract.
Platts assessed the contract price at $42.15/st, unchanged from Wednesday, based on a lack of market activity.
