According to reports, a sample of Dettol soap another product from a multi-national brand owned by Reckitt Benckiser (RB) India, has failed laboratory test. Along with Dettol, 10 other medicines has also failed the similar test.
According to reports, The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has called Dettol as substandard. "The sample of Dettol soap bar wrapper was collected to measure its weight, which was supposed to be 125gm. But, its actual weight in the test was 117.0470gms," said Mr RC Yadav, Agra drug inspector.
The FDA has planned to send notices to these different 11 companies because their product was found to be sub-standard. Meanwhile, after the UP FDA suspected Dettol soap for its lesser weight, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)firm RB said it would do a thorough investigations and cooperate with the other authorities.
According to the RB , the issue was not about the quality, as suggested in some reports, but about lesser weight. "To understand the alleged differences in the sample of the product weight, we would collaborate with the concerned authorities and do a thorough investigations," said a representative of RB firm.
"Technically, all soaps lose moisture during the journey to retail outlets and hence we witness a drop in the weight," the spokesperson added.
The company further stressed that though media reports suggested a quality issue, the letter received from the FDA stated Dan issue with lesser weight and not in the quality.
