Shtar Science & Technology Group is now constructing some units at its Rizhao refinery for the production of GB III gasoline and gasoil, a refinery source told C1.
The units include 1.3-mil-mt/yr residue catalytic cracker, a hydrogenation unit, 100,000-mt/yr coker and 200,000-mt/yr gas fractionation unit, the source introduced, adding they may become operational at the end of October at earliest.
The Rizhao refinery will be capable of producing GB III gasoline and gasoil by then, according to the source.
Shandong independent refineries faced increasing pressures as the deadline for the nation’s popularization of GB III vehicle-use gasoil draws near, market sources denoted. Currently, only a few larger ones are able to produce the fuel.
China plans to spread use of GB III vehicle-use gasoil nationwide from Jul 1, 2011.
GB III gasoil standard requires sulfur content below 350ppm, versus 500ppm for GB II standard.
Shtar Science & Technology Group (Rizhao), or the former Rizhao Yuanfeng Asphalt Chemical, has a topping capacity of 1.8-mil mt per year.
