In the lastest outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers), two people in South Korea have died and hundreds have been placed under quarantine. The outbreak comes after a passenger travelling to China complained of respiratory and pulmonary problems. His condition is now believed to be stable. All the passengers in touch with the patient have been isolated and being held in Hong Kong.
The deadly virus which has a 27 percent death rate, according to WHO. The virus, whihc is usually seen in the middle eastern countries, has moved to the eastern part of the world. South Korea has reported a total of 25 cases as of last week.
Government officials have requested people showing symptoms for MERS to not leave the country. This would minimise the spread.
A WHO report released towards the end of May, places the number of confirmed Mers cases at 1,139 globally. While South Korea is grappling with the increasing panic that the out break is causing, scientists are trying to figure out how humans contract the virus in the first place.
