PetroChina has recently taken over the first cargo of crude sourced from Iraq’s Rumaila Oilfield, according to a source with PetroChina’s affiliated refinery.
"Jiu Hua Shan”, carrying 2-mil bbl (equivalent to about 270,000mt) of crude, arrived at 300,000-DWT jetty of Dalian Xin’gang port on Jun 17, the source revealed.
A half of the cargo will be sent to nearby Dalian Petrochemical while the other half to other refineries said the source.
The cargo set sail from Iraq’s Basrah port at dawn on May 28.
Rumaila Oilfield is the largest one in Iraq and the fourth one worldwide, with verified crude reserve amount reaching 17.7-bil bbl, showed C1’s record.
PetroChina and BP won jointly Iraq’s bid on oilfield exploration in June 2009. Currently, PetroChina, BP and Iraq’s Southern Oil Company hold 37%, 38% and 25% stake in Rumaila Oilfield, respectively.
PetroChina and BP are expected to hike daily crude output of Rumaila Oilfield to 2.85-mil bbl in six years, according to a source with PetroChina.
