An oil vessel exploded on the river near Panyu District in Guangzhou City of South China at dawn on Jun 17 causing five dead one injured, but the incident hasn't impacted bunkering activities or oil shipping in Guangzhou port up till present, market sources indicated.
"Bunkering operations (at Guangzhou port) are continuing as usual," a source with SinoBunker's Guangzhou branch told C1.
Some private bunker suppliers said the incident has small effects on their operations on the whole. However, they will conduct bunkering more diligently after the incident, because local work safety administration will carry out safety checks more closely, according to the suppliers.
"Currently, freight rates of oil vessels haven't climbed abnormally at the mouth of the Pearl River," a ship owner indicated.
The administration of work safety has asked nearby large oil tank farms to carry out safety inspections, a source with one local oil storage revealed.
In the coming one month, the work safety administration will continuously conduct safety inspections on Guangzhou port's oil tank farms and hazardous chemicals storages, but this probably won't impact normal entry and exit of ships, a port source said.
