Germany's Evonik said Friday it signed a deal with officials from Jilin Province for a non-exclusive license to build and operate a 300,000 mt/year propylene oxide plant in Jilin Province, in Northeastern China. It would take around two to three years for an propylene oxide plant to be build after construction starts, according to industry estimates.
Evonik will license the HPPO-process in which propylene is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to produce propylene oxide.
The plant will be run by a yet-to-be-established joint venture between Jilin Shenhua and Jilin North Chemical Company.
Propylene oxide is a raw material for polyurethane foams, which are used for building insulation, furniture upholstery, and lightweight motor vehicle construction.
