5、Joining international pharmaceutical regulators alliance to catch up with international standard
From November 20 to 21, 2014, the Interim Management Committee of International Pharmaceutical Regulators Alliance held its meeting in Beijing. At the meeting, the Charter of Interim Management Committee of International Pharmaceutical Regulators Alliance was passed, symbolizing the birth of the alliance. It consists of the pharmaceutical regulators from 22 countries and international organizations. Among them, China CFDA is one of the 13 countries that perform responsibilities as the committee core members.
Based on current international cooperation efforts, the alliance aims for its members to have strategy planning, sharing of knowledge, information and experience, and innovation of regulating approaches; such cooperation leads to efficient resource use, higher regulating efficiency and capacity-building support to pharmaceutical regulating institutions of member countries. So far, the alliance is in the planning stage, with the main task of planning relevant work during the interim stage.
Through analysis of the representatives’ speeches and the founding objectives of the alliance, the international pharmaceutical cooperation is predicted to be faster and deeper in the following fields in the years to come: communication between different international organizations and stakeholders, efficient information sharing between alliance members, GMP-based inspection, regulation on generic drugs, etc. Another estimated development direction is mutual recognition of GMP inspection results between countries.
