Argentina will not tender for another strip of LNG cargoes before March 2015 and possibly later, as weak consumer demand continues to saturate the domestic market with excess natural gas supply, a source close to the matter has said.
Further details were not available.
YPF officials in late August said they had no immediate plans to issue a widely expected tender for LNG supplies for Q4 2014 and calendar-year 2015 amid ample gas supply in the South American country. A YPF official said at the time that Argentina would be well-supplied for at least six-months, offering no future timeline for an eventual supply tender.
Argentina unloaded just three LNG cargoes with a total volume of 388,280 cu m in the first half of October, down 48% from 745,726 cu m unloaded in H1 September. By comparison, in H1 October 2013, Argentina imported 434,535 cu m, while in H1 September 2013 it imported 506,900 cu m.
