Spanish gas demand is seen down 5.8% year on year in November to 28.4 TWh due to a forecast decrease in demand from both homes and businesses and the power generation sector, gas grid operator Enagas said Friday.

Enagas said conventional gas demand from homes and industry in November would likely fall by 5.1% year on year to 24.0 TWh due to comparatively milder weather in October 2013.

Temperature variations could still cause demand to vary between 22.0 TWh and 27.0 TWh, Enagas added.

Demand totaled 25.3 TWh in November 2013, with a cold snap for the last ten days of the month pushing up conventional demand.
Next month, daily conventional demand under a normal weather scenario (and excluding demand for power generation) is forecast to peak at 944 GWh November 28.

This compares to a forecast maximum of 764 GWh for this month.

Meanwhile, Enagas said it expected gas demand for power generation next month to fall 9.9% from last November, to 5.02 TWh.

Demand from combined cycle gas plants is expected to fall in a range between 3.58 TWh and 5.28 TWh during the month, Enagas added.

The company uses demand forecasts for hydro, renewables and coal to help determine the demand figure for gas in the following month.

Gas demand in Spain during the first nine months fell 9.2% year on year, with conventional demand down 9.7% and power plant demand down 6.6%.
