The single, national day-ahead purchasing price (PUN) on Italian power exchange IPEX fell in September settled at an average Eur57.97/MWh, down 10.4% year on year and up 22.9% month on month, exchange manager GME said.
Average peakload prices were down 6.6%, or Eur4.49/MWh, to Eur63.92/MWh, while off-peak prices were down 13.1%, or Eur8.21/WMh, to Eur54.53/MWh, GME said.
Zonal selling prices cleared at Eur57.30/MWh in the north, Eur56.21/MWh in the centre-north, Eur52.23/MWh in the centre-south, Eur52.08/WMh in the south, Eur53.60/MWh in Sardinia and Eur87.68/MWh.
GME said the volume of electricity exchanged in the day-ahead market fell 0.3% year on year to 23.5 TWh.
Volumes exchanged on the regulated platform fell 2.5% to 15.1 TWh, while those traded over-the-counter rose 3.8% to 8.4 TWh.
Volumes of electricity purchased nationally fell 1.1% to 23.2 TWh, while exports rose 143% to 0.297 TWh.
Sales of electricity generated nationally fell 4% to 19.7 TWh.
Some 38.3% was generated from renewable sources -- 18.4% from hydro, 12.7% from solar, 4.8% from wind and 2.3% from geothermal, 37.4% was generated from gas, 11.7% from other sources -- such as syngas, solid waste and heating oil, 11.2% from coal, and 1.4% from pumped storage.
Imports increased 25.5% to 3.7 TWh.
GME said that in the four sessions of the intraday market, 1.9 TWh was traded at an average price of Eur57.14/MWh, Eur55.59/MWh, Eur55.81/WMh and Eur59.86/MWh respectively.
In the forward market, the closing price on the last day of September was Eur58.80/MWh for the October baseload contract (up 14.9% month on month), Eur59.12/MWh for the Q4 2014 (up 3.7%), Eur59.06/MWh for Q1 2015 (up 5%), and Eur54/MWh for Calendar 2015 (up 0.8%).
