US raw steel production fell 1.5% week on week in the week ended Saturday, though it rose 0.5% year on year, American Iron and Steel Institute data released Monday showed.
In the week ended Saturday, US producers made 1.885 million st of raw steel with an average capability utilization of 78.4%. In the previous week, US producers made 1.913 million st of raw steel at an average capability utilization of 79.5%. In the equivalent period last year, US producers made 1.875 million st with a capability utilization of 78.3%.
Year to date, US producers have made 65.993 million st of raw steel at an average capability utilization of 77.2%. Last year at this time, producers had made 65.55 million st at 77% capability utilization.
By district, the Northeast produced 236,000 st last week; the Great Lakes, 665,000 st; the Midwest, 243,000 st; the South, 664,000 st; and the West, 77,000 st.
