Turkish power production in August reached 23.73 TWh, up 11.45% on the 21.29 TWh a year earlier, and down 4.6% on the 22.68 TWh in July this year, according to figures Thursday from state grid operator TEIAS.
Of the 23.73 TWh generated, 47.1% was from gas, 29.0% from coal, 16.9% from hydro plants, 3.6% from wind plants, 2.3% from plants burning liquid fuels and 1.1% from other renewable energy plants.
The 11.17 TWh of power from gas during August was the highest this year, up 6.2% on the 10.52 TWh in January.
Overall 70.6% was generated by the private sector and 29.4% by state owned power plant. It was the first time private sector generation has exceeded 70% of power generated, and generation by state owned plant has fallen below 30%.
According to TEIAS data, during August Turkey's hydro dams contained a total of 1.86 trillion cu m of water up 4.25% on the 1.75 trillion cu m in July, but down 12.26% on the 2.12 trillion cu anticipated in Turkey's 2014 generating programme.
It was also down 19.1% on the 2.30 trillion cu m they held in August 2013 and down 8.3% on the long term average for August of 2.03 trillion cu m.
