Steel mills in the US shipped 1.3% less steel in June compared with May on lower longs and sheet shipments, American Iron and Steel Institute data showed.
In June, US mills shipped 8.29 million st, down from 8.4 million st shipped in May, though June shipments are up 6.2% from 7.81 million st in June 2013, AISI said Monday.
Mills sent out 482,379 st of structural shapes three inches and larger in June, down 10.5% from 538,805 st in May. Rebar shipments are down 2% to 677,369 st in June from 664,080 st in May.
Mills shipped 1.87 million st of hot-rolled coil in June, down 2.2% from 1.91 million st in May. Cold-rolled coil shipments decreased 4.3% to 960,273 st, compared with 1 million st in May. Hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip shipments were flat at 1.29 million st.
Coiled plate shipments rose 15.4% month on month to 286,238 st, compared with 247,563 st in May.
US mill deliveries in the first half of 2014 are up 2.9% from the same period of 2013.
