Turkish bituminous thermal coal imports in June rose 14% on-month to 1.81 million mt, as volumes from Colombia reached their highest since January, Turkish Statistical Institute data showed Tuesday.
Turkey imported 955,986 mt from Colombia in June, 20% higher on-year and up 48% on the month.
Russia was Turkey's second-largest source of thermal coal in June, with 563,303 mt shipped, 28% higher than May but down 21% on a year earlier.
Supply from South Africa -- which had surged to a 12-month high of 397,939 mt in May -- dwindled to just 85,526 mt in June, a 79% on-year drop.
Turkish thermal imports for the first half of 2014 were 10.01 million mt, marginally down from the 10.02 million mt the country received in the year-earlier period.
