South Africa exported 3.12 million mt of thermal coal to India in May, up 3% from 3.02 million mt in April, according to customs data released Tuesday.
Cargoes destined for India accounted for 53% of overall South African thermal exports, which totalled 5.86 million mt in May.
The second-largest buyer of South African thermal coal during May was the Netherlands, which more than doubled its intake month on month to 595,450 mt in May from 275,238 mt in April.
South African deliveries to Pakistan totaled 430,826 mt in May, up 31% from 329,996 mt in April, while deliveries to China rose to 216,591 mt in May, up from zero in April.
