The volume of original-equipment automotive lead batteries shipped in North America this year through April rose nearly 8% compared with the volume shipped in the same four months of 2013, Battery Council International data showed Friday.
About 6.96 million batteries were shipped in January through April, compared with about 6.47 million batteries shipped in January-April 2013, a 7.6% jump, BCI data showed.
Comparing 12-month periods, the latest BCI data reflected an even greater increase of 9%, with about 19.45 million batteries shipped from May 2013 through April 2014 and roughly 17.85 million batteries shipped from May 2012 through April 2013.
In contrast, the month-on-month change showed a 4.9% decrease, with roughly 1.77 million batteries shipped in April compared with about 1.87 million in March.
Volumes in April inched up 1% year on year, compared with about 1.76 million batteries shipped in April 2013.
