US produced 7.939 mil b/d of crude in Jan, highest monthly level since 1988

US crude production rose 68,000 b/d to 7.939 million b/d in January, its highest monthly tally since December 1988, when production was 7.942 million b/d, according to monthly US Energy Information Administration oil data released Friday.

Texas production continued to reach new heights in January, up 48,000 b/d to 2.874 million b/d. North Dakota production rebounded to 933,000 b/d in January, up from 923,000 b/d in December. Production had hit an all-time high of 976,000 b/d in November, EIA data showed.

But Federal Offshore, Gulf of Mexico, production continued to trend lower, coming in at 1.26 million b/d in January, down from 1.28 million b/d. US Gulf of Mexico production has for the most party fallen steadily from its September 2009 high of 1.75 million b/d.

New Mexico production hit an all-time high of 295,000 b/d in January, up from 283,000 b/d.
