Coal exports from Canada's Ridley Terminals totaled 752,123 mt in February, up 21.9% from January but down 14.4% from February 2013, according to data the Prince Rupert Port Authority released Friday.

Year-to-date exports from the terminal total about 1.37 million mt, down 18.8% from the same period a year ago.

The terminal, in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, does not comment on monthly coal loadings.

In February, the terminal exported 517,399 mt of metallurgical coal, up 120% from the prior month, but down 15.3% from February 2013. Thermal coal exports totaled 234,724 mt in February, down 24.5% from the prior month and 3.1% from the same month a year ago.

The terminal did not export any petroleum coke in February. In February 2013, it exported 25,970 mt.

Ridley, served by the Canadian National railroad, is the closest major coal export terminal to Asia. It primarily exports Canadian metallurgical coal, although it also exports thermal coal from the Powder River Basin.

In 2013, the terminal exported about 12.1 million mt of coal and pet coke, up 4.7% from 2012.
