US coal production totaled about 18.8 million st in the week that ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.
This production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 1.9% lower than the previous week's estimate and 3.1% below output in the comparable week in 2013, EIA said.
Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.1 million st in the most recent week while output west of the Mississippi totaled 10.7 million st, the agency said.
US year-to-date coal production totaled 141.8 million st, 3.1% lower than comparable year-to-date period in 2013, the EIA said.
