US coal production totaled about 17.9 million st in the week that ended February 8, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.
This production estimate is 4.5% lower than the previous week's estimate and 6.7% below output in the comparable week in 2013, EIA said.
Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 7.8 million st in the most recent week while output west of the Mississippi totaled 10.2 million st, the agency said.
US year-to-date coal production through February 8 totaled 103.9 million st, 3.1% lower than the comparable period in 2013, it added.
