Demand from China's galvanized steel sector is expected to account for 56% of the country's refined zinc consumption in 2014, up from 54% this year, state-owned nonferrous metals information division Beijing Antaike said Thursday.

The galvanized steel sector accounted for 47% of China's zinc demand in 2008, a share that grew to around 54% by 2012, Antaike figures showed.

"We forecast galvanizing steel industry to account for a bigger share in China's zinc demand next year, reaching 56%," said Liu Menglian, a zinc analyst with Antaike. "The diecasting alloy sector's share in Chinese zinc demand next year is expected to be less."
