US coal production, based on railroad car loading data, totaled about 19.3 million short tons during the week that ended Saturday, the US Energy Information Administration said Thursday in its weekly coal production data.
EIA said the estimate is 5.2% lower than the prior week and 0.7% lower than the comparable week in 2012.
Production east of the Mississippi River totaled about 8.2 million st, while output west of the Mississippi River totaled 11.1 million st, EIA said.
Year-to-date US coal output was 727.7 million mt, down 2.3% from production in the comparable period of 2012.
