US coal production totaled about 20.9 million st in the week that ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.
The production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 1.2% higher than the previous week's estimate and 4% above output in the same week in 2012, EIA said.
Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.4 million st in the most recent week, while output west of the Mississippi totaled 12.5 million st, the agency said.
US year-to-date production totaled 666.1 million st, 2.8% lower than in the same period in 2012, EIA said
In the month of August, US production totaled about 90.8 million st, unchanged from August 2012.
Production east of the Mississippi in August totaled 36.3 million st while output west of the Mississippi totaled 54.6 million st, EIA said.
