US' big upstream operator Newfield Exploration has opened its long-awaited data room for its Malaysia and China assets, three months after announcing it would exit its overseas operations to focus on North American resource plays, its CEO said Tuesday.

"We're out with the information," Newfield's Lee Boothby said during a presentation to the UBS Global Oil & Gas Conference in Austin, Texas. His remarks were webcast.

"Goldman [Sachs, Newfield's sale adviser,] has told us it's been one of the most popular opportunities they've been able to handle in a long, long time," Boothby told the annual conference.

He said it is not yet clear whether the two operations will be sold as a single package or split up to different buyers.

"We're marketing [the operations] as a going business, but China and Malaysia are separate countries," said Boothby. "It depends on how the math works out, whether they're one is sold to one party and one to another party."

"We'll have to see how that plays out," he added.

The assets averaged 27,761 b/d of oil equivalent in 2012.
