Iran exported petrochemicals worth $12 billion in the Iranian calendar year that ended March 20, Deputy Oil Minister Abdolhossein Bayat said Tuesday, according to Press TV.

"During the last [Iranian calendar] year, despite certain problems, Iran's petrochemical exports amounted to 16 million mt worth $12 billion, winning a significant share in [Iran's] non-oil exports," Bayat said.

Press TV is an Iranian government-owned news network.

Bayat said nearly 60 countries, mainly from South Asia and Southeast Asia, took delivery of Iran's petrochemical products in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Oil Ministry news service Shana reported Monday that the country's petrochemical production capacity increased by about 13.2%, or 7 million mt, to 60 million mt/year in the year that ended March 20. Shana did not provide details of the new plants or petrochemicals whose capacity has been expanded.
