The January US terephthalic acid contract price was heard settling at 67.22 cents/lb ($1,482/mt), up 2.83 cents/lb after Thursday's settlement of the US paraxylene contract, industry sources said.
Demand for US PTA remained low, while supply was heard to be ample, according to market sources, primarily because of soft polyethylene terephthalate demand downstream. December PTA contracts were assessed at 64.39 cents/lb ($1,430/mt), flat from November after the US PX contract rolled over.
The January US PX contract price settled up 4 cents from December at 80.5 cents/lb ($1,774.70/mt), sources said Thursday. The settlement was in line with expectations of market participants.
