Oman's Octal Petrochemicals has stopped offering polyethylene terephthalate to European consumers for December, market sources said.
A PET converter said the producer had contacted buyers to tell them it was postponing availability of PET until January.
The producer could not be reached for confirmation.
One European PET producer said Octal had declared force majeure at its 1 million mt/year PET plant in Salalah, but other sources could not confirm this.
"Octal postponed availability, but I haven't heard it described as a force majeure," said the converter.
The reduction in availability appears to have enabled European PET producers to push up prices, with European spot prices assessed Eur10/mt ($13/mt) higher week on week Wednesday.
"It's good because it warns our customers not to rely too much on material from overseas," the European producer said.
