China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, which mined 95.99 million mt of crude coal over January-September, aims to reach 140 million mt by the year end, according to a release Thursday on the Xinjiang government website.
The January-September volume is up 21.5% from 78.98 million mt in the same period last year, the release said. The region mined 120 million mt in 2011.
Meanwhile, Xinjiang plans to increase its annual coal output to 400 million mt in 2015, according to the 12th five-year development plan released by the Xinjiang regional government in June 2011. Of that, 50 million mt will be supplied to other provinces/regions in China.
Major power generators such Huadian Corp., Datang Corp., Huaneng Group, and China Electric Power Investment Corp., and major coal miners such as the Shenhua Group, the China National Coal Group, the Henan Coal and Chemical Industry Group, and the Shandong Yanzhou Coal Mining Group, have already invested in Xinjiang's coal and electric power sectors.
